That’s right, I finished adding tags to the last of the posts that were missing them. Of course, not every post gets a tag, but the posts that needed tags all have them now!

My brain is mush from doing all that work. Oh well. I can still find a way to blame Bush for this!

Incidentally, there are now 1,508 tags. This will be whittled down as I decide which tags will live and which…won’t. In the meantime, some general stats.

There were 586 people referenced in my entire blog. Many were only referenced one time, but the aforementioned George Bush had the most mentions of all, due to how often I blame him for everything. There were 784 passages of Scripture. Now, some of these were redundant, because I treated “John 1:1-14″ as different from “John 1:4″. The most often quoted passage on my blog was Hosea 4:6 and Hebrews 6:18 (a tie with 5 tags each). Other passages would have ranked higher, but often I referred to Romans 1:18 as simply Romans 1 (for example). It probably would have had the most if I had cited it “correctly.”

In any case, now that the tags are done, I can start work on the next project, which I won’t tell you about until after I get some time to get it going. But first: sleepy time!

But that doesn’t mean I’m doing nothing! I’m just doing stuff that is invisible to you guys at the moment. In addition to streamlining my website a bit, I’m also up to just over 4 years ago on adding tags to the blog. If you pay much attention to the categories on the right-bar, you’ll notice the numbers have been changing there too, as I reclassify certain posts and get them better structured to make stuff easier to read. I’m up to April of 2008 now, which means more than half of the blog has been updated (in fact, I’ve completed over 1,000 posts and there are only about 1,700 total).

I’ve also got a couple of other projects that I will be hopefully able to announce in the near future. I’ll try to finish up the blog first, though.

Now that I have transferred over the content that I wanted from the main page to include it in the blog, I am closing the main page of this website. Those of you who only read this blog (the vast majority of people) won’t notice anything different at all. Those who are accustomed to going to the main page at calvindude.com will find yourself automatically redirected to calvindude.com/dude/ (which is the blog).

Depending on how my plans for the future work out, I may open that main page back up in the future. However, for now I’m working on a couple of different projects and, until they are going forward fully, it is easier for me to hide that part of the site through the redirect.

Apparently, my website is experiencing some technical difficulties today. I currently cannot directly access the SQL databases on this site, and additionally all the tags and categories appear to have been deleted off all the blog entries. I have a ticket in with my web provider and we’ll see if we can get that back and functional soon. Hopefully that will be the case, because it will totally be the opposite of “fun” to add back all the categories….

I have managed to add tags to every post written the first year of this blog’s existence! That’s 361 posts. Since the tags are mainly being used to help keep track of references to people and Scripture, I’ll provide a bit of data on that. Overall, there were 502 different tags. Many of these will be culled later, as I tighten up how I want this to work (to make it more useful).

First off, the people. Over the course of the year, my blog referenced 150 unique individuals. As I was inputting the tags, I went through the stretch where my blog was in the midst of a blog war with the Debunking <del>Atheism </del> Christianity site, and I figured John Loftus would be the top individual mentioned. Instead, it turns out that Daniel Morgan got 29 posts mentioning him to Loftus’s 27 posts.

The other key aspect is Scripture. I had 266 unique Scripture tags. The most commonly referenced Scripture in that first year was Hebrews 6:18.

Very definitely, presuppositional apologetics took the center stage during that first year. I even had my seven-part critique of Witmer’s critique of presuppositionalism. However, being “ancient history” in blog terms, I discovered much of what was linked has vanished.

I also discovered that the old comments were wiped out during one of the updates I did. Actually, I seem to remember this happening at the time as it didn’t exactly surprise me. I’ll still like to see if I can find the comments, maybe on an archive, and restore them.

In any case, I’ll have more thoughts when I finish the entire project and get caught up to this year’s posts. Only 5 years and change to go! :-D

If you’ve paid attention to the blog archives (and really, who hasn’t?), you’ll see that I’ve begun to add tags to many of the old posts. This is in an effort to help navigate some of the massive amounts of content here. Some of these tags are only going to be temporary, and the WordPress template I’m using is designed not to show tags yet for that reason. I’ll be programming some stuff myself to help make them more useable in the future.

One thing that’s interesting is that it means I’ve been re-reading a lot of stuff I blogged about six years ago. Some of it hasn’t aged too well. Other bits show that there’s nothing new under the sun. But it’s all fun stuff! I’m thinking I may just program a setting where you can read them in order (as opposed to typical blog fashion, which is reverse order).

Over the next few months, I will slowly be merging in data from the old articles that I’ve written for this CalvinDude site into the blog section. There are a few reasons for this move.

First of all, it will get everything into one database, which will help me for future updates I’ve got in mind.

Secondly, it will give me a chance to update the articles. Most of them were written over ten years ago. And while my views are essentially the same now as they were then, they have changed ever so slightly over that time and I believe it will be beneficial to update those articles for that reason. It will give me a chance to correct grammar errors and to make it more “professional”-looking too.

Another benefit to moving the articles over into the blog format is that it will enable people to comment on those articles too. Additionally, I’ll be able to add better tags and labels to everything to help with searches for those who wish to read more from a topical aspect.

Again, these will be coming out piecemeal over the next few months, mainly so as to not overwhelm the blog and push new content too far down the main page too quickly.
