Those who tried to access the site earlier today (and probaby part of yesterday too) noticed that it was down for a bit. But since you’re now reading this, you already know it’s BACK!

I blame Bush.

BTW, anyone who tries to leave comments should be aware that there has been an upsurge in spam that I’ve been getting rid of. If I accidentally delete a relevant comment, I do apologize. If you don’t see a comment you make appear within three or four days, you can re-submit it.

Yeah, yeah. I know about the stupid “junk” symbols that occur now on the blog. This is because I upgraded WordPress. I just upgraded to the next version…and it’s still there :-(

Reminds me of reading e-mails sent from Juno back in the day. Anyway, I am looking into what I can do to fix it. Unfortunately, without home internet access, I won’t be able to do much for the near future. But when I can, I will! Honest.

If not…I blame Bush.

That’s right, earlier today this website was down! Thankfully, I was able to contact my my provider and get it fixed. Turns out that the automatic domain renewal didn’t “automate” for some reason.

But this brings up an important factoid. With the renewal of the domain, this means that CalvinDude.com has been existence for over two full years now!!! Much to the chagrin of atheists everywhere (especially John Loftus), we still exist to this day :-D

So happy birthday, website (the official “birth” date is April 8, for those keeping track…actually, for those keeping track, GET A LIFE, MAN!).

The spammers are returning. The good news: I’ve already blocked most of them so you shouldn’t notice anything on your end. The bad news: I’ll be working on some changes to help make it a little easier for me, which means there could be the potential for some disruptions on your end. If so, I apologize. Naturally, it’s still BUSH’S FAULT though…

March 4, 2007: 2:09 pm: CalvinDudeAdmin, Theology

In the near future, Lord willing, there will be some changes to the content on the main website here at CalvinDude.com (and by “main website” I mean that this will not be on the blog). Those who have seen the main page at www.calvindude.com already know that in the left-hand sidebar, there are many articles and such available for you to read (although I know some people only go directly to the blog and may not know this).

Since I am currently taking an Old Testament Survey class and need to do some of this stuff anyway, I will be introducing a new field under the Theology section. It will be my summary of the entire Bible. This project will take some time to complete, and I will not necessarily be doing the books in “Table of Contents” order; however, I intend at some point to finish all the books, and will begin putting in the necessary database framework in the next few days.

This means that you will find some fields inserted in the next few days that will say something like “Check back for content” or whatever I feel like writing once I code that section. I will keep the blog section informed when I add a new section, though, as well as providing the links you need to read the latest info.

The intention of this summary is to provide a sort of survey of the entire Bible with a chapter-by-chapter summary of each book. The only major changes to this will be in the genelogies, proverbs, and Psalms (which, due to their nature, do not summarize very well; I shall instead probably focus on a more topical approach when dealing with those). The hope is that this summary will enable people to get a grasp on some of the systematic doctrines taught in Scripture, as well as enable someone who has never read Scripture before to get a “quick and dirty” overview so that, as they begin to read Scripture, some of the typologies, themes, and common arguments throughout the entirety of Scripture will be there from the beginning.

It looks like we might have a bit of a work-around for the blog. In case anyone is wondering, the problem appears to be with the WYSIWYG capability for the newest version of WordPress. Disabling that apparently works (which is good, because the previous work-around involved having to actually manually input data into the mySQL database…NO FUN!).

In any case, apparently others have had this problem too, based on the support forums. I tried everything suggested in there, including re-installing the WordPress files (twice), clearing the browser caches, etc. All of that and no joy.

By the way, this does not appear to be browser-specific either. I used IE 6.forgetaboutit at work and IE7 at home with the same problem. I haven’t tried it on Firefox at home yet, but it appears on the support forum that that one has problems too.

In any case, none of that should affect comments or anything (I hope). It’s only going to affect me, being the lovely admin that I am!

Oh, for code I wrote myself!!!!

We’ve been experiencing some technical difficulties following the upgrade to the newest version of WordPress. Hopefully it’ll get fixed soon!

This is why I prefer writing my own code!!!

As you can see (assuming you’ve been here before), I’ve changed the theme of the blog.  I’ve got a couple that I’m experimenting with.  I’ll see which one I like the best, and go from there :-)

Feel free to let me know if you love it or hate it.

That’s right, we had some technical difficulties earlier today, but now we’re back up and mostly running again.  Whew!
