Penseés

I was talking with a co-worker today and somehow got onto the topic of depression. For anyone who wants to know what it’s like, I think the best description musically that I’ve ever heard is the Darkest Days album by Stabbing Westward. In fact, when I had depression, this album was pretty much on constant repeat for me (BTW: that wasn’t a good thing; if you’re depressed, this album is about the worst thing to listen to…but if you’re not depressed and you want insight, it’s the best explanation that I know of).

Hmm, well today has finally passed most of the way on toward oblivion. It’s been another unusual day, although not quite as surreal as the days have been. Still, when there are weeks like this it makes me wonder what in the world God’s up to.

I suppose time will tell.

I have to say, this entire week has been odd. It really dates back to about last Friday. I haven’t had a normal day since then. Part of it is due to all the bad weather, part to the events detailed by every news source on Earth, part due to the most unusual work items ever.

Oh well. At least it keeps life interesting. Still, I rather hope tomorrow is just a normal day.

And maybe that itself is the most unusual thing of all.

Ahmadinejad has a blog, and the New York Times wants you to know about it! But in the midst they wrote one of the funniest (if you like dark humor) paragraphs ever:

Mr. Ahmadinejad has tried to touch on most issues that concern him. He has written about freedom in Iran, referring to the protest of students against him a year ago at Amir Kabir University in Tehran as an example of its existence in Iran. “It was a joyous feeling to see a small group insult the elected president of people fearlessly amid a majority,” he wrote, without referring to the fate of the students, many of whom are in prison now.

Ah, Doublespeak!

I’ve been thinking a bit lately about the Old and New Testaments, specifically about how God presented the shadow (OT) before the reality (NT). Now that we have the NT we have the ability to read the OT fuller and more clearly, but I wonder if perhaps sometimes there is benefit to reversing the study. That is, God revealed the shadow before the reality perhaps as our guide to learning about it too.

I wonder how effective evangelism might be if we started with OT overview first, and then moved on to the NT with Christ. Of course, even in doing so whoever presents the Gospel must still know the NT as he presents the OT…but then, God knew the NT as He revealed the OT too….

Just a thought I’m pondering.

It offends me that people think this is offensive.

Grow up.

Okay, I admit.

I’m linking to this article about a guy in India who married a dog for the sole reason that we finally have a new article that correctly uses the word “bitch”:

In a ceremony befitting a beautiful Indian bride, the bitch, a former 10-year-old stray named “Selvi,” was bathed and dressed in a ceremonial orange sari with a garland of flowers adorning her neck.

Hmmm… I still think the bride’s underage….

I just came up with a great country song title:

If We Only Have One Thing (It Ain’t Each Other)

*w00t* I blame Bush for this. And the guy who was blasting country music from his no-door Toyota at the stop light when I was at lunch. He has no doors because Bush’s tax cuts stole them. And because of Global Warming–he doesn’t need them anymore. See? It’s all Bush.

“It is good that we give honor to the brave victims of our stupidity…”

– Freeman J. Dyson. 2004. Infinite In All Directions; Perennial Ed. New York: HarperCollins. p. 192.

This quote is specifically referring to the Challenger disaster in 1986 by comparing it to the Robert Scott attempt to make it to the South Pole.
