Yes, I know blog activity has slowed recently.  This is due primarily to my work schedule.  Add onto it the joys of three blizzards in as many weeks, an icky head cold (which wasn’t major, but just enough to be annoying), and the stress of Calendar Year End, and it means I’ve pretty much been doing nothing but working and sleeping.

Oh yeah, and watching 24.  That show’s like crack, only more so.

Oh well.  I figure today will work as enough of a representative day because it’s been insane all day long, thus matching this entire week.  So, allow me to recap.

I woke up this morning for some reason around 3:30.  Looked out the window and saw everything was clear.  Went back to sleep.  My alarm went off at 6:10, like it does every morning.  I looked out the window…saw a raging blizzard.

We had nearly four inches of snow already accumulating.  As a result, I checked the snow line at work.  Amazingly, they had nothing to report.  I say that because the last two storms we had, they had delayed openings followed by closures there.  This time, however, I was glad because we were trying to get our 2006 books finally closed.  So I got ready and made my way out to the bus stop like I do every morning at 7:10.

At 8:35, I got back to my house because the bus still hadn’t come.  There was about 6 inches of snow on the roads by this point.  I would have stayed out longer, but by that point my toes were beginning to go numb and I didn’t relish the thought of frostbite.  So, I got back home and warmed up, tried to check on-line to see if the transit system was even operating today, and found that, like all good governmentally subsidized programs, there was absolutely no useful information anywhere to be found.  Then, I called work to update them (I had already phoned when I knew that I was going to be late).

After I warmed up, I headed down the hill toward a different bus stop.  This one is at a location that has a couple of different routes cross by.  And this time, after only a ten minute wait in the blizzard, the bus finally showed up!  It was the CJC bus, but by this time I wasn’t going to be picky.

Oh yeah, for those wondering…CJC = Criminal Justice Center.  Yup, I got to ride with the work-release people, who informed me of all their criminal misdeeds all the way in.  Mostly, it involved drug offenses.  Then, one guy said something about his cousin accidentally killing someone.  Another guy pipped up, “He’ll get 2-6 years.  My brother accidentally stabbed a guy while he was drunk, and he died.  They dropped it down to involuntary manslaughter.”

Ah, the yout’s of America.

Anyway, I finally got in to work 2 1/2 hours later than need be.  At which point, it was full-blast, pedal-to-the-metal time.  Because we wanted to close our books, I even skipped lunch until way later.  This wasn’t too bad though, since showing up late coupled with the fact that there was no sun shining due to the blizzard, caused my body’s clock to malfunction so it never felt as late as it actually was.

Anyway, we worked and got everything caught up to a stopping point.  Then, at 4 o’clock, we got an e-mail from Building Services telling us they were closing the building.  I looked out the window.

It looked the same as it had all day long.

I even pointed this out to some friends.  The conversation went something like this:

Me: “What changed?”

Them: “The roads are icy.”

Me: “The roads have been icy all day long.”

Them: [shrug]

Anyway, I hitched a ride from a co-worker who dropped me off at the Target near my house so I could get some food for the weekend.  Then I hiked back through the snow to my abode, watched some 24 and then I saw Over The Hedge.  When that was complete, I began this blog entry.

I could have obviously done some other things besides watch 24 and Over The Hedge.  I could have jumped into the chatroom I frequent, or even worked a bit on some of my writing.  But frankly, I’m just too tired for that at the moment.  Although I’m almost completely over my head cold right now (just got a little bit of the sniffles), this week has certainly taken a toll on my energy level both due to the massive amounts of stress involved in closing the accounting books for a year and the previous fun of the head cold.  As a result, I’m pretty much in veg mode.

The good news is that by the time I left work today, we had everything closed on our end.  The actual accounting department has to do the final balancing, etc. so it’s possible that we’ll still have some work left to do on it come Monday; but I’m thinking we’re on to 2007.  As I told a co-worker earlier today, I’m so glad 2006 has been taken out back, shot, and buried in the mass grave in the parking lot.

I’m so glad this work week is finally over!
