Over on Triablogue, I’ve finally read an anonymous comment that had some value! That’s because it provided a link to a very interesting article:
Was Lazarus the Beloved Disciple?
This is especially interesting since the vast majority of people assume that John is the disciple whom Jesus loved. Witherington, in the above post, gives some fairly strong evidence to suggest it may be otherwise, and furthermore that Lazarus better fits the description. Since I haven’t had time to work through it all myself yet (been busy with other tasks), I am going to take the “easy” way out and remain uncommitted for the moment :-D But regardless of who was the Beloved Disciple, the historical issues remain interesting, so I highly recommend reading up on it ;-)
